Dear Mr. Trump, here are four things about Sweden to mention in your next speech

Donald Trump brought up Sweden as a problem country in his latest speech. We see this as an opportunity to boast about our homeland and give Trump a few suggestions for the next time he wants to bring up Sweden.

Earlier this week US president Donald Trump held a speech where he criticized the suspension of his travel ban. He claimed that he wanted to ”protect the country” and then mentioned Sweden as a shocking example of what happens in a country where there are no borders (eh, what?).

But hey, Mr. President, since you have a little trouble with your fact checking, here are some ideas on things about Sweden to mention the next time you’re in the mood for a speech.

Integration makes Sweden better

Trump, you may not want to face it, but people from other countries are also humans. They have important knowledge that we need. In fact, there is a large study showing that migration in Sweden leads to increased internationalization, contributes to more jobs, greater creativity and innovation, increased import and export, increased employment and growth force of small and medium sized companies. That’s not bad at all.

Sweden, the third best country to live in – WORLDWIDE

Yes, Trump, it’s actually true. At least if you believe 2 000 scientists from 124 different countries – and you should. They have examined how countries relate to the UN goal of sustainable development – and Sweden came in third. The US has the world’s largest economy, although still only end up in place 28. Drug addiction, obesity, the spread of HIV and violence in society messes things up for the United States.

The girls are safe here

Sweden is at the top of the list of countries where it’s safe to be a girl, according to a report from Save the Children. Listen carefully now, Donald Trump: the United States places itself at 32. Factors considered in the report was child marriage, pregnancy, the percentage of girls who finish school, maternal mortality and the proportion of women members of the national parliament. Not so fun to brag about, Donald?

We fight for feminism

No, Sweden is not completely equal yet. But we fight it with a lot more vigor than many other countries. According to statistics, from the EU Statistical Office, Sweden ranks first with a well-developed childcare. Also, we are best of the Nordic countries when it comes to taking parental leave for fathers. The economic cooperation organization OECD have also mapped out how equal wages between the sexes are in all countries. Sweden comes in at numer 16th, while the United States struggles to stay at place 24. Ouch.

So, Mr. President, we hope you’ve got some new inspiration and choose to say something positive next time you bring up Sweden. Because there are indeed good reasons to do so.
